Community Infrastructure

The Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program was announced by the Prime Minister at the Australian Council of Local Government inaugural meeting on 18 November 2008 as part of the Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan. Since its inception, the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program has made more than $1 billion available to local government authorities to build and modernise community infrastructure.

In the Federal Electorate of Hindmarsh the funding was allocated as below:

- City of Holdfast Bay - Dissabled Access Facilities - $101,000

Demolition of the existing toilets and installation of a modern unisex and disabled access facility at John Miller Reserve, Somerton Park.

- City of West Torrens - Off-road pathway - James Melrose Place - $250,000

Construction of an off-road shared path facility just over 3 kilometres in length along the entire southern boundary of Adelaide Airport.

Guidelines for Round Two of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP $100 million) and Round Two of the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program - Strategic Projects (RLCIP-SP $120 million) are now available. Applications for Round Two:

  • of the RLCIP ($100 million) opened on 9 October 2009 and closes on 20 November 2009, and
  • of the RLCIP - Strategic Projects ($120 million) opened on 2 November 2009 and will close on 15 January 2010.
  • At the Australian Council of Local Government meeting on 25 June 2009, the Prime Minister, the Hon Kevin Rudd MP announced additional funding of $220 million for the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program.

  • Funding of $800 million has already been allocated to councils and shires to build and improve community infrastructure and boost local economies.
