TURNING ON THE TAP
Glenelg Waste Water Recycling Commences
Today marks a victory for supporters of Gulf St Vincent, our public parks and gardens and the recycling of waste water as the Glenelg to Parklands Pipeline is officially opened for use.
Steve Georganas MP, Federal Member for the area in which the Glenelg Waste Water Treatment Plant is located, has long campaigned along side the City of West Torrens for treated waste water not to be pumped out to sea, but kept as a resource and used for the community’s benefit.
“The storm and waste water that has long been discharged to sea has been killing our sea grasses and diminishing the health of the Gulf St Vincent,” Steve Georganas said.
“And the need for such a reliable water source to keep our city’s trees and parks alive has never been more acute.
“Today I couldn’t be more pleased that we have overcome the obstacles, saved the Gulf and secured these billions of litres of water for community benefit for many, many years to come.”
Steve Georganas MP will join in the official opening of the completed pipeline with Federal Minister Wong, Premier Rann, and State Ministers Maywald, Weatherill and Lomax-Smith in Rymill Park, Adelaide, at 8.30 am Monday 11 January 2010.
