Funding Announced For SANFL Ovals in Hindmarsh
Date: 05 March 2010
FUNDING ANNOUNCED FOR SANFL OVALS IN HINDMARSH
The Rudd Labor Government will provide $162,000 for two ready-to-go local infrastructure projects in the Hindmarsh electorate as part of our plan to support jobs and deliver lasting benefits to local communities.
Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Local Government, said that this funding will go towards the upgrade of the stone walls at Glenelg Oval in Glenelg ($70,000) and improvements to lighting at Richmond Oval ($92,000).
Steve Georganas, Member for Hindmarsh, said that importantly, these projects are expected to support three local jobs during construction.
“We will deliver this funding to the Cities of Holdfast Bay and West Torrens from the Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program (RLCIP).”
“The projects announced today were put forward by the local councils as local community priorities, instead of being determined from Canberra,” Mr Georganas said.
Mr Albanese said that in just over a year, the RLCIP had delivered $1 billion to build and renew community facilities across Australia, making it the largest single investment in local infrastructure in the nation’s history.
“Already more than 3,300 community construction projects have either been completed or are underway through the first round.
“Some of these projects have been on the drawing board for years. By letting local communities decide, the Rudd Government is helping turn the community’s vision into a reality.
“Across the country the RLCIP is funding sporting fields, swimming pools, libraries, community halls, water and energy saving facilities and other local projects.
“I expect to announce the approval of the remaining councils’ projects shortly,” Mr Albanese concluded.
Project details follow.
